Clamping Plate / Driving Plate
/ Grinding Positioning Bush / Shoe

Driving plate & clamping plate both are tooling items used on all types of grinding machines intended for use in external or internal grinding / honing of bearing rings in bearing industry. Both items are required together for any type of grinding operation. Both are absolutely VITAL parts to have "Axial Clamping" of bearing rings during hard machining.

Driving Plate
Prior to external /internal grinding of bearing rings, these rings are normally face ground on both sides on a duplex grinder with a high level of precision and accuracy for face parallelism and face waviness. One of the faces of the bearing ring is resting on the bevelled edge of the ” Driving Plate ”. Hence this becomes a ” Reference face ” for all subsequent hard machining operations.

Due to this demanding requirement, the ” Driving plate ” is made of composite construction viz: a wear resistant carbide ring strongly brazed to a carbon steel body. The end face of the carbide ring is precision ground and finally lapped a very high level of surface finish and geometrical accuracy.

On the machine, ” Driving plate ” is fixed to the work head spindle and it is a rotating part. Thus a good quality ” Driving Plate ” ia VITAL part in the hard machining process of bearing rings.

Clamping Plate
Prior to external / internal grinding of bearing rings. These rings are normally face ground on both sides on a duplex grinder with a high level of precision and accuracy for face parallelism and face waviness. One of the faces of the bearing ring is resting on the bevelled edge of the driving plate. the other face of the bearing ring is clamped by clamping plate. The movement of clamping plate is by means of high precision bearing unit of which clamping plate is one part.
Due to this demanding requirement the clamping plate is normally made of solid one piece sintered carbide was wear resistent grade.
The end face of the clamping plate is precision ground and finally lapped to very high end of surface finish and geomtrical accuracy..
Thus a good quality " clamping plate " is vital part in the hand machining process of bearing.
These are used in Linkoping Machines
Parallelism is maintained within 4 micron among the faces.
  Grinding Positioning Bush

Grinding Positioning bush is a tooling item used on the duplex grinders ( Double Disc )for grinding both faces of bearings rings simultaneously. See the photo below.

Multiple numbers ( 6 to 8 depending on size ) of this part are clamped to a big plate called as ” Carrier plate”. Bearing rings are pushed into these bushes. The carrier plate gets indexed and goes in the space between two veritical grinding wheels. Both the wheels move axially inwards to grind both faces of the ring simulataneously. During grinding operation, the bearing rings rotates freely inside the grinding positioning bush. After the grinding cycle is over, the carrier plate gets indexed and then the rings are pushed out from bush.

Due to this demanding requirement, the ” Grinding positioning bush ” is made of composite construction viz: a wear resistant carbide ring is press fitted to a carbon steel body. The bore of the carbide ring is precision ground a very high level of surface finish and geometrical accuracy.

Double disc grinding being the first operation after heat treatment, it carries a great importance to have an extremely good quality for face parallelism and face flatness. These parameters decide the overall quality level of the bearing.
Hence Grinding positioning bush plays an important role for achieving this requirement
