|Grinding Positioning Bush
Grinding Positioning bush is a tooling item used on the duplex grinders ( Double Disc )for grinding both faces of bearings rings simultaneously. See the photo below.
Multiple numbers ( 6 to 8 depending on size ) of this part are clamped to a big plate called as ” Carrier plate”. Bearing rings are pushed into these bushes. The carrier plate gets indexed and goes in the space between two veritical grinding wheels. Both the wheels move axially inwards to grind both faces of the ring simulataneously. During grinding operation, the bearing rings rotates freely inside the grinding positioning bush. After the grinding cycle is over, the carrier plate gets indexed and then the rings are pushed out from bush.
Due to this demanding requirement, the ” Grinding positioning bush ” is made of composite construction viz: a wear resistant carbide ring is press fitted to a carbon steel body. The bore of the carbide ring is precision ground a very high level of surface finish and geometrical accuracy.
Double disc grinding being the first operation after heat treatment, it carries a great importance to have an extremely good quality for face parallelism and face flatness. These parameters decide the overall quality level of the bearing.
